The Walt Disney Corporation, which employs over 80,000 people in the state of Florida, said it will offer “travel benefits” to employees that are seeking abortions after the Roe V. Wade decision by the SCOTUS Friday.
Disney claims that the new Supreme Court decision stripped women of their constitutional right to have an abortion, even though that right is not stated in the constitution anywhere.
In a statement issued to the Tampa Bay Times, the company said: “Employees who are unable to access care in one location will have affordable coverage to receive care in other locations.
The company did not say if the “travel benefit” would fully cover the cost of travel or just be a reimbursement after the fact.
“We have communicated directly with out employees today that we recognize the impact of the ruling and that we remain committed to providing comprehensive access to quality and affordable care for all of our employees, cast members, and their families, including family planning and reproductive care, no matter where they live.” -Disney Co.
The Supreme Court ruling allows 13 states to ban abortions immediately. In Florida, a ban on most abortions after 15 weeks will go into effect on July 1st, 2022.
